When it came to light the faces of the new management team – consisting of Joe Banner, Mike Lombardi and Rob Chudzinski..I knew this was a concoction for disaster.
Not one face told the story of successful drafting, and team-building. Banner was the business man who stood by as Andy Reid built one powerhouse team after another, while Mike Lombardi has left two decades worth of draft sorrows that kept him out of football and on the NFL Network for 5 years, until banner called his name – despite teams in need of a GM. Lombardi was the Browns first choice, when he wasn’t even an option for any other NFL team.
The Browns trade most of their 2013 draft picks for 2014 draft picks – banking on the impossible “predicting the future”. The Browns sign washed up players and players no one else wants – while Joe Banner made a promise to “build a Champion!”. Sam Bradford goes down and the Rams scramble to find a high-end quarterback – and did so, and signed him quickly. What do the Browns do when Campbell, and Hoyer go down? They drag their feet, only to sign some Harlem Globetrotter Quarterback.
Chudzinski struggled offensively here in Cleveland his first time around..which indicates his record setting 2007 season to be a fluke. Chud couldn’t make it in San Diego, and was berated by fans, players and media while at Carolina. He ends up in Cleveland. A rookie Head Coach – which has become the norm in Cleveland. Chris Palmer, Butch Davis (rookie NFL HC), Romeo Crennel, Terry Robiskie (interim), Pat Shurmur, and Rob The Chud.
In my opinion, Haslam sold Browns fans a Bill of Goods, just like he did his own customers in the Rebate Scandal. I’m no Team-Building expert, but I have built my share of Teams in the corporate world – and hiring the guys Haslam has tells me he isn’t looking for a Championship team, he’s looking for an easy way out.
Many legal experts believe Haslam will be found guilty – and who knows what will happen to the Browns?
