This should not really come as a surprise, as we are able to grasp why eating healthy is so much more expensive than eating fat, calories and cholesterol. I can go to McDonald’s, Burger King, etc., and buy a 500 calorie, cholesterol burger for a dollar, or two, while purchasing a salad can cost $5.00 or more. That includes sit-down restaurants. Government doesn’t seem to support the Farmer very much either. Yet, go to a Farmer’s Market, or stop alongside a road with a Fruit & Veggie stand and spend pennies on the dollar for any food item.
I can walk into any Giant Eagle, walk to the “organic” section, and see prices twice the cost of those genetically engineered foods.
Vitamins and prescriptions are costly, which discourage people on tight budgets from acquiring vitamins for a healthy “you”.
Sidenote: Turkey’s get blamed for the feeling of being bloated and sleepy after a Thanksgiving meal, yet, the complex carbs are ignored as the guilty source. Being diabetic, I know which foods to stay away from…who puts on their plate; mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, greenbeans…the complex carbs..then blame the turkey for the crash-and-burn?. Just thinking out-loud.
